they are both OEM cylinders, and its an OEM head, turns out there are 2 differnt -71 heads, the proper 900cc and the bastard 72-e73 1000cc one has a fire ring of 3.22 and the other is up around 3.39 or somethign to that effect, the one i need has the fire ring of 3.22 and the one i have right now is the larger bastard one. so its not quality control so much as it is manufacurering and design idiots

Put it back on Ebay and recoup some of your losses. Glad I read the whole thread, at first I was thinking that why not repair the bolt holes and o-ring it as you would with a drag car engine that was running a ton of NOS, but it doesn't sound like that would work either, best bet is to sell it to someone looking for that "BASTARD" part.
NSC there is an Indy here in Danville that I know has some type of a 1000 project bike. He has tons of parts of all models, every HD I can imagine. His phone number is 434-799-0906. If he has what you need, and you can manage the payment, I will pick it up and ship it to you via ups or USPS. I don't have any money since I have been laid off for soon to be 4 months, but I can afford the gas to go get it and ship it to you, IF he has it. Dave has a bit of everything, it is amazing actually. If he organized a bit better he could retire on selling parts alone and stop service work. He only works on Harleys, PERIOD.
Just a thought, I have no dog in the hunt.
If I were you, I would still play the lottery. When your luck changes, wouldn't want to waste it on something small, lmao.
Heard anything from the guy whose place burned down and started this whole damn mess?
Hang in there dude, when you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot, and ask for help!

hey i am pretty sure i found one on ebay the seller measured everything for me and it all seems to be what i need. sucks though cause i am now broke both in paypal and my personal accounts so i am gonna have to put some stuff on hold and the airbrush i had planned getting done next month is gonna be pushed till the fall inter time scale till i can figure out some source of cash.
thanks for the offer though, and what happens when i run out of room to tie knots in the rope LOL
Dennis, as I said put the one you don't need back on Ebay, just be honest about what is going on with it, that way you can recoup SOME of your losses. BTW what kinda shape is that head in? What have you got in it? PM me the details, I might know someone who needs it if the price is right.

i havent got that much into it had the guides and seats checked to make sure the vlaves i picked up will seal proper, also had the gasket surface checked to make sure it was leval and square. this one was a gimmie head, cause buddy couldnt find the head he though he had. if buddy needs it he can have it for the cost of shipping it to him. its the head for the 72-e73 ironhead, only fits cylinders of that year.
but i am keeping the vlaves as they are the same ones for the proper head LOL
if he insists on payign for it beyond shipping i am always lookign for a new hat to add to my collection LOL my current sou west privateers HD hat is getting kinda grungy lol
as to the comment of paint, it'll still be gettign a proper base coat clearcoat finish * my first attempt at paint* just wont be able to cough out the $1000 for the mural on the tank till the fall.
