Right off the top of my head I would say there is corrosion built up in the starter button and the contact is sticking.
Open up the switch housing and use a wire to jump the switch to see if the start stays engaged that way. It is a process of elemination... could be the starter... but I would start with the simplest things first.

Remove the starter relay located on the fuse panel. Take the relay to a local auto parts store and get a replacement. Plug the new relay in and try again.If the problem remains unchanged, it mite be the switch.
