After a coworker hit a deer on his bike Tuesday night I'm thinking about getting some proper safety gear. He is scraped up and his bike is totaled, but that's better than the shape the deer is in. I'm wanting to get a Modular helmet and a mesh jacket. My biggest thing is that I want a helmet where I can get some air flow. I want some sort of armour jacket, but one that I won't be sweating the whole time I am riding. Any suggestions?
Scorpion makes an excellent Modular helmet with plenty of airflow. Actually been looking to buy one myself very very soon. I think I'm gonna go with the Scorpion Transformer, a three-in-one helmet.
I've got a half helment (DOT), but looking to get the full face for this fall/winter. Just got a Mesh-Tex jacket from Firstgear. Ordered it from NewEnough.com on clearance. Great jacket, and fit was true to size.
Nobody ever plans on skidding the pavement, but I prefer replacing a jacket to skin graphs if/when it ever happens...
Ride safe
the harley mesh jacket I have has Hydrator pak pockets to cool you, unfortunatly last weekend after several 100 days they were out of the paks that go in there.

Buy a full face that is comfortable and you can always leave the visor half open to get more air. Modulars aren't as safe as full face helmets.
Consider that 33% of head injuries are in the area protected by a full face and left vulnerable by an open helmet, and only partially protected by a modular.
This said, most has to do with your preferences and local climate. I ride with a half helmet in the hottest days of summer.
As for the jacket, a good mesh jacket with proper reinforcements in the elbows, shoulders and back is the answers.
Some have also rib protection without forfeiting comfort.
I wear a HJC IS-16 FF. It's comfortable and breathes pretty well. The integrated, retractable sun visor is pretty nice. Yes, it makes me look like a power ranger/astronaut/fighter pilot/etc.
As far as jackets, I wear a Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 mesh armored jacket. It has CE armor in the shoulders and elbows and has a back pad which can be switched out for a CE back protector. It flows air very, very well and is supremely comfortable. It also has a zip out liner which is windproof and waterproof so it's a good three season jacket.
With my FF and mesh jacket I can ride all day in 90+ heat comfortably. Stopping at lights is a little warm but I can deal.

I just bought the FXRGŽ Full Face Helmet and it is the best helmet I've ever had. All kinds of vents and very light. It's not cheap, but what's your head worth? I also bought one of the Harley mesh jackets. It's cheaper than many of the other ones on the market and I had it on when it was 100 degrees the other day. It was hot, but not unbearable.
