Default 2 into one headers vs. 2 singles ???

In another thread, someone was asking about python pipes and it brought to my mind a question about exhaust systems in general.
Is it accurate to say that all the 2 into 1 headers will do better in performance than choosing two singles?
If so, is the differance so minimul that for cosmetic reasons, the singles are choosen?

I personally like the look of two staggered pipes, but was led to believe the performance of a header was much greater. Thoughts??

2 into 1s generally test out better but for normal riding I doubt if you would tell much of a difference. I have run both on the same bike but whenever I changed the exhaust I made other minor changes as well so I do not know if there was a seat of the pants difference due to the 2 into 1. In the distant past I only wanted staggered duals but I am now running a Hooker 2 into 1 on a FXSTC with a S&S Super E and I have been very pleased with it.

Like anything else... not all 2 into 1's are created equal and the same allpies to the various flavors of duals.

"Generally" speaking, 2 into 1's will get ya a little more on the bottom. I know there are Rinehart and Trex guys that will debate that statement, but due to the scavenging effects of 2 into 1's there is usually an appreciable difference.

One big caveat to this is the fact that many folks that like pipes like LongShots, StraighShot, BigShots, ShortShots, etc.... like to run them with the baffles removed. When run w/o baffles, duals can not touch a 2 into 1. When they are run as designed (with baffles), some of the duals are comperable to some of the 2 into 1's.

For the record..... I and a 2 into 1 kinda guy. Give me a good 2 into 1 over ANY set of duals..... Having said that, it is only my opinion and evenyone has their own and that's fine...

When I was in the market for a new exhaust I spent a lot of time researching the upside and downside of many different style exhaust. The ones that I though I really wanted because they looked so great really would not have performed well with my stocker motor I discovered. The scavenging effect was minimal.

I settled on a two into one system that had good reports regarding performance. I installed a set of D&D Fat Cats and have never looked back. As far as noticable performance gains...I just can't say for sure. Only a dyno can tell.

on a stock bike I couldnt tell the diff but when I went H.P. it made all the difference in the world duels preform at the high end where a header makes preformance possable from idle to top end IMHO
