Hey Geoff, didn't you move from an Electra Glide to the FXSTC? I personally like FX series Softails, and have no issue riding all day, day after day on them.
That said, if was after a glide, I would get a RG, the frame mounted fairing just makes sense to me.
I ride a 2010 Heritage. I'm going to trade it in for a tourer. The tourer is much more comfortable. I'm trying to decide on the EG or the RG. When I had my Heritage in the shop, they loaned me a RG for 2 days. The looks grew on me, but the ride was awesome. I rode it on the highway in high winds around 18 wheelers and the bike cut through the wind without wobble. I have long legs (32 inch inseam) and something about that fairing made me feel much more comfortable in the saddle than the other Glides. Don't go by what everyone else is saying about the looks. With the RG, you either like it or you don't. The one negative I will say about the fairing is that the positioning of your hands is not exactly behind the fairing like the batwing so you'll get some wind and rain on the hands in bad conditions. Certainly less than a softail, but more than an SG or EG.
I obviously like the Road Glide. Great ride and really planted on the highway. Next time you are at your local HD dealer, check out how many of the employees that ride baggers, ride Glides.
When I was selling Harley's I sold more Road Glides with test rides Vs Street Glides.
I would put them on the Street Glide first then the Road Glide. Handling is superb
for a big bike, steering is light, no weight on the forks like the Street Glide. The
fairing is a bit different but when you're on the highway cruising at 80-85,
then tell me which one you like better! Take them both on test rides, back roads & highways.
The Softail Custom is a great bike thats fun to ride and looks good.
