Default Crowdin' the Center?

It seems like recently here in Wyoming there are almost daily articles in the papers about riders dieing due to cars crossing the center line on secondary highways and hitting bikers. I guess I'm curious whether there are just a lot of drunk, inattentive, old, etc., cage drivers or if some riders are maybe crowding the center a little too much and not leaving themselves enough margin to react. Your thoughts?

There are a massive amount of stupid drivers out there. There are also a massive amount of drivers not paying attention to their driving like they should for too many reasons to list. Then there are a lot of drivers that think if they get to their destination a minute or two sooner that life will be so much better so they drive much faster that reasonable.

Riders that forget those things will hug the center of the road or just quit paying as close attention as they should and pay the price.

On a secondary hiway I'll usually try to take my half out of the middle. Gives more reaction time.

There is no room for error on our part. We always have to be on the watch for these idiot drivers and think ahead. Alot of traffic coming the other way ? stick to the right side of the oil slick.
Deer are on the move more in certain times of the year. They are worse than idiot drivers. Thats when I'll ride closer to the yellow line. Common sense on the bike needs to take precedence at all times. To hell with what other drivers think. Your lifes on the line.

Cagers wander, happens more on secondary roads than slabs. Sometimes I flash my brights to wake the day dreamers up.

People cross the center line all the time where I come from. Does it matter why they do? Not to me...dead from an inattentive driver is the same as dead from a drunk, or dead from an old driver. You gotta have two heads out there, one to think for yourself and one to think for everyone else on the road.

On coming big rigs, cages crowding the centerline, and blind corners I move over to give myself a chance.

Ain't that the truth. Had many a close call when someone drifted over the line. I'm constantly scanning ahead looking for drifting vehicles and hidden ones popping out to pass. First sign of movement and I'm moving right.

Those hidden vehicles can be a problem if you're hugging the line. They can't see you and you can't see them. So there are times when you need to remember the see and be seen rule. If I have to change my lane position to make sure oncoming cages can see me I'll do it.

I was riding on the back of my brother's bike when I was a kid when a car swerved over into our lane in a turn and tried to hit us. We were riding in the middle of the lane. My brother swerved away from them but I got hit in the knee by the car's bumper. It didn't hurt me, just a glancing blow. We turned around real fast to catch them but they disappeared.

Lots of idiots out there. In our case, they were homicidal idiots. It was obvious they were trying to hit us on purpose, since they swerved so hard into our lane. Gotta keep on your toes all the time.

I always fade away from the center of the lane if I see another car coming from the opposite direction. Crowding the center is slapping lady luck on the ***.
