Default Valve stem problem

Anybody ever run into a valve stem that won't let air in or out? I've had them crack, split and leak, but not this.

My rear tire valve stem has completely quit working - it isn't leaking, but when I check the pressure with a dial gauge the air comes out so slow it takes several seconds for the needle to go up (other tires pop the needle to the pressure instantly) and when I use a standard pen-type the air comes out so slow it won't move the gauge. I can't get air to go in our out.

I wondering if I pull the core and put it back in will I be able to get it working, or will I end up with a flat and nothing to ride today?

Replace the stem. I had that happen just once and I pulled the stem and replaced it with a new one and all was well. It may be slightly bent.

just had that problem yesterday while checking air or rear tire of wifes sporty. Pulled stem, gave it a shot of WD40 and wiped it off, works fine now. Had tire replaced recently think it had some bead sealer on it.

Like stated above ---just replace Schrader valve. Takes less time then typing this. I would suspect bent,or trash, or even a o-ring from fancy chrome HD cap jammed in valve..

Pull the core and check it, replace it if you need to. You can always borrow one from somewhere.

That's why they sell the cores at the parts stores. Sometimes they fail. Easy replacement and only a few cents.

Thanks for the help. Good advice. I didn't have a spare valve, but we were going on a ride from the HD dealership today, so one of the guys there screwed in a new valve for me before we left. Worked fine.

Happened to me and it was, as stated above, an o-ring from the "fancy" valve cap. Removed it and away I went.

Actually, I think you hit the nail on the head. When the guy was pulling the old schrader valve out a little O-ring fell out. I wasn't sure what it was, but I did recently put some of HD's fancy valve caps on my bike and my wife's.

Maybe this can serve as a warning. I'm going to go check those caps and pull out any O-rings still in them.
