Default Need intercom input please

Hi All,

The wife wants to start doing more riding but doesn't want an Electra Glide or an Ultra... she loves the RKC. So OK. I want to get an intercom system (our bike only, not bike to bike). Would like some input from you that have done some experimenting and like what you have, what to avoid, what not to waste $ on, that sort of thing. Thanks!

Dave

Before the wife got her own bike we used the J&M handlebar mounted cb/intercom/ipod (jmcb2003du) I liked the dependability of a hardwired system as opposed to a battery powered bluetooth. But those systems are getting better all the time.

She's had her own bike for over 2 years and has bugged me ever since to put a cb on her bike so we can "keep in touch". Finally getting around to it now.

I bought a helmet to helmet BT system from amazon designed for bikers or skiers. Very simple - receiver is about two inches long and mounts on the side of the helmet - comes with two sets of head phones and microphones - probably 1/2 mile range and allows me to talk from my 'bike to the wife on her 'bike when we're travelling. Has an amazingly long 7-8 hour talk time and hardly ever needs charging.

Only problem is the wife talks so much I may have to take the mic out of her helmet and just leave her with the head 'phones. lol

Check out the Interphone F4 product review they did over at Web Bike World. I have a pair of these and I can't say enough good about them. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...interphone-f4/

I got a pair of BlueAnt bluetooth headsets that can double as an intercom system.... After using the bluetooth and the intercom for a while, i discovered something......... Half the fun of riding is NOT being able to answer the phone of talk to the wife.... (when she rides behind me that is..... she ain't been on the backseat since I got crashed back in Dec) Her helmet still has the BlueAnt installed so she can use the phone while riding, but I have been procrastinating like crazy about putting the bluetooth back on my new helmet..... Slightly expensive lesson but I finally learned that I would rather cruise along with one earbud from my iPod plugger in and NOT be able to even hear the phone ringing......

Dave,
I can only tell you about the ones I have used over the years and would recommend. There are many out there now, and most are going to Bluetooth. Also it will depend on what capabilities you are wanting the unit to do. That being said, I had 3 different sport touring bikes before my HD. I used the Autocom systems http://www.topgearaccess.com/autocom/ on all 3 bikes. They performed flawlessly. I have seen some great deals on ebay for their old systems that are hardwire connected, which I prefer anyway. They have different levels of units that fit what you are wanting, for instance having ipod, cell phone, radar, etc. connected to your unit. I would read up on those to decide what you may want. They are a little expensive but the quality of the unit and all of the chords are top notch. I have also tried the Chatterbox but was not happy with its quality. I have installed the HD system on my Road Glide so I am not using any of these products at present time. I would also recommend doing a search in the Touring Forum. There are many discussions on adding an intercom system to their bikes including many different manufacturers. Hope this helps and good luck.

I have an Autocom system and the things are rock solid. They have the only vox mics that will work with my pipes at any speed. I tried numerous different ones and the Autocom was the only one that worked. While there are a lot of new Bluetooth units out there, at least with a wired unit you're not screwing around trying to pair headsets up.
Here's a link to their other website, it has a little more info. http://www.autocom.co.uk/

I'm very happy with my Cardo G4 PowerSet. Wireless between driver and passenger and another bike if you choose. Wireless to an iPod or other music player, your phone, your GPS, your phone through your GPS....lots of options. I like not being tethered to the bike or the other rider. Found mine new at from an Amazon.com seller for $329.

We need lots more information....
What type (if any) helmet do you wear?
How much are you willing to spend?
Are you willing to spend the extra money for wireless? (Not to mention if they are not charged they don't work...)

We use an IMC wired system. They work well with our half helmets and they were cheap. (about $150). The VOX works very well with little extraneous noise. Considering Momma only rides with me < half the time keeping batteries charged would be a pain and shortens the battery life...
