Well... I wouldn't have a problem with a Chinese/overseas made boot IF it is good quality.
From what I've read at the websites suggested, I've learned that Red Wing's MC boots are made overseas. (Not a slam... just an observation.) Apparently Wolverine's are also made overseas (and I don't see anything at their website that looks like a good candidate for a riding boot). I see lots of boots at Danner, but again, I can't find anything at Danner that looks like a great candidate for a riding boot.
Seeing as I'll be leaving on a road trip in less than 3 weeks... I don't want to take the risk of ordering online and hoping all is processed/shipped/received in time.
Sounds like this Saturday I'll be in Fort Smith, AR looking at boots at the boot outlets!! I think there is a large "outdoor sportsmen" type of store that carries all sorts of brands, I'll include that in my quest as well.
Again, thanks all for your input. It does help to educate and make aware of options.
So far the Redwing 971 has the features I want/prefer: Stitched sole. Padded around the ankles, deep cleats... no side zipper either. A quick call to one of the larger Redwing dealers in Ft. Smith turned up nada. Not cool.
Every pair of motorcycle boots I've seen look real hot, especially on women. Problem is if you have to walk in them they're going to hurt. I wear cop boots. Specifically SWAT boots. Cops wear them all day long and have to walk in them. Yea, Yea, they don't have that big manly heel and don't have gochos hanging from them but they are real comfortable. The toe is a safety toe but not made from steel, not sure if it's OSHA approved. They're 8" and have laces and a zipper and, they're the lightest boots I've seen. Not sure if they're made in China but don't care. Those Red Wings are way too heavy for me and take forever to break in.
However, I have a pair of steel toe Harley engineer boots that are well over twenty years old that I cannot wear out. I now use them mostly when cutting the grass. Don't know where they were made.
Well, being a native Texan....historically I've only worn Justin or Nocona. Granted, these are mostly western boots, but Justin does have an engineer boot called Black Odessa.
