I would have asked a dealer tech the question.

You said it, Buyer Beware. It's the responsibility of the buyer to know what he's buying, not the seller to know what the buyer needs.

Just my 2 cents.
As to the wheel, we are replacing a 21 inch wheel that has been bent, this is not a modification from a different size wheel.

True, but when you ask the seller point blank, "Will it fit with no modifications?' and they answer "yes" then the onus is on the seller. They either answer truthfully with good knowledge of the item or state that they don't know. Either way, yes, I should have checked with a parts tech, etc. Lesson learned.

So its been said take the original rim hub and get it laced to the new wheel. Problem solved. Yes there is work involved but not too much considering.

file a complaint with paypal for item significantly not as described and start the process, it can take a while but you'll get your cash back.

That only works on Ebay ( because Ebay owns Paypal) Different complaint process off-Ebay.

Sell it on ebay, maybe you'll get more money than you paid. Next time do your own research.

Default Measure

Your hub is the same as a 2005 Dyna Front Wheel cast 43815-04 WHEEL ASSEMBLY 13-spoke, 19 inch hub width: 4.396”. Both have narrow glide 39 mm forks. The triple tree holes & fork tubes are in the same centers.

If the HDF member that sold you this wheel could have read you the measurement to you prior to the sale than you would know that the hub would/would not fit. Since you have the same hub but bent wheel you could have measured the hub yourself. I doubt that this member sold this wheel/hub to you knowing it is a wrong size for your application.

I agree with you the seller should not have told you that. However, that's no excuse for the buyer not doing any research at all. You should have been skeptical to start with since the wheel you were buying came off a totally different family line than the bike you were putting it on.

PS, the hub off of a Softail night train is 6.32" wide, the same as a dresser 2000~current. You did not need to call anyone as I believe you had the answer sitting at your own house. Parts guys usually are fired sales persons from CompUSA anyhow.
