I bought a pair of Wiley X AirRage glasses with their Light Adjusting lens 4 years ago. 2 years ago the lenses stopped darkening. I contacted WX and they replaced the lenses for me and I just paid shipping. They told me at the time that it should not have happened. Now 2 more years go by and the same thing happened once again - they stopped darkening. I called WX once again and this time they tell me that their LA lenses only last for about 18-24 months before they stop darkening!
I like the glasses and need glasses with a foam cavity seal (removeable preferably), but it would have been nice to know that LA lenses only last 18-24 months before I spent $130 on what I thought to be riding glasses that were going to last me quite a bit longer...
Doesn't make sense to me. I've had my Panoptix light adjusting glasses for 4 years and still work like new. Of course they don't darken completely like sunglasses do, but that's another discussion. I have a pair of the Wiley-X that are just the dark smoke and really like them. I'd talk to someone else at WX and make sure what you heard is true.
Just my luck. I just bought a pair and no one said anything about this. I got the XL model and just love them. They do get real dark now and hope they stay that away. I'll be back to the Optical shop soon and will bring this up to them.
I found the following on the Wiley X website under the PRODUCT WARRANTY / RETURNS & EXCHANGES section:
WARRANTIES
Eyewear Limited Lifetime Warranty Policy (Effective for Purchases After 1/1/09)
All Wiley X, Inc. eyewear is warranted to the original purchaser for life against manufacturing defect in materials and workmanship (except Light Adjusting [LA] lenses which have a tint adjustment life of 18 months. Proof of Purchase for LA lens products required).
I'm not sure what their warranty is on purchases before 1/1/09'?
