I have Wiley X photochomic glasses, which do not get very dark.

Default Sun Glasses

I have a pair of 7eye photochromic that I love. Change from a light copper tint to a dark grey very quickly. They also have the foam seal around they eyes that work very well.

I have the the 7 Eye Diablo also that came with the photochromic which were excellent but I had prescription lens put in with the photochromic and they are not quite as dark but they are close. These are the best glasses that I have had.

my prescription glasses have the "transistions" style auto-tint.
It works great, faster transitions when it is cold out.
they get quite dark, i rarely wish that I had darker glasses.

I have a pair of Wiley X and 7eye. Both lenses change with light but the Wiley X fit my face better. Also both are goggles and not glasses. I need the wind protection offered by goggles or my eyes get watery very fast.

If you intend driving a car with them on you might want to check out if they work behind glass. A friend of mine got a set for the same reason you are looking only to find they do not work in his car. I dont know if this is generic or not but worth following up on.

The old girl bought me a pair of HD glasses for Christmas. They are certainly better than changing from clear to dark. Only complaint I have is how long they take to get dark.

I buy the inexpensive transition sunglasses. I ordered some cheap ones just to try them out and stuck with them. With the foam padding, they provide adequate eye protection and are perfect for starting out before daybreak or for riding at dusk. I always carry a regulation (non-transition) pair of riding sunglasses -- they are usually darker than the transition lenses and seem to work better for me when the sun is high in the sky. If you get the kind with removable foam inserts, you will also have a decent pair of sunglasses to wear after riding.

I wear Smith Optics... called "Threshold" and I LOVE them! They make ski goggles, sunglasses, & prescription glasses. I wear a set that comes with several types of interchangeable lenses. They have polarized, pink'ish color (really work well for overcast days), clear, and you may purchase yellow for dark situations. Smith does offer a full line of Polarchromic glasses. They are a HIGH quality product with a lifetime guarantee! I have sent mine back for warranty work, and received a complete (frames, lenes, case, etc...) replacement for free! Their prices are fair, for the product you are getting! I have enclosed a link to their Polarchromic section. Let us know what you decide!
