The only thing I've heard (twice) about the initial change-over to synthetics is that the synthetic oil turned very dark almost black in a relatively short period of time. This ONLY happened after the first oil change to a synthetic. It might be that the synthetic oil was actually cleaning deposits left by the dino stuff. Perhaps the top of the line synthetics contain more detergents in their additive package than do the petroleum oils? I really don't know. Both guys that told me this are credible guys. One experienced it in his Harley the other in his truck. Both vehicles had well over 50,000 miles on them. I'm just providing this to let you know IF you should experience it. It's probably a good thing and not something to worry about.

You are right about the first oil change from dino to synthetic oil turned very dark almost black. That's the carbon build up left from dino oil or as we call it burn oil. The second change to synthetic oil it will come almost the same color after 5000 miles. My RG bike has 85,000 miles on it and still going daily. The lowrider has less around 35,000 miles.

That is one reason I am asking. Been told it may be a good idea to change again after 1k miles to flush all that out & get the full benefits of synthetic.

This isn't one reason I was asking. I thought the smart a$$ forum was over at Honda?
