But, Exactly how is this done when all the round covers in the Harlley Big Book say the go with the SE air filter and the ECM has to be calibrated if you use SE air filter, as far as I can tell? Sorry to be dense, but I'm puzzled and brand new to this. I don't want to change stock settings. I really appreciate the help from you all. Thanks

You can't put the round cover on the stock filter, the backing plate is fitted to the stock filter. The SE filter is round so is the K&N and several others. If you only change the AC setup, it should not require remapping, BUT, if you are installing an aftermarket AC and cover, then why not save a few bucks, upgrade the exhaust and add a power commander or Vance and Hines kit? More power, better sound, better all the way around.

Simple: Your cylinder is capable of as much volume as it can take in through the intake, and push out through the exhaust. Both are limited from the factory (for various reasons) of the cylinder's potential. If you only change the efficiency of one (intake or exhaust) the other will be the limiting factor, and nothing changes. The cylinder can't pull in or push out more then the lesser will allow. No fuel adjustments are necessary.
A Stage I opens both (intake and exhaust), allowing for more air flow through the engine. In order to take advantage of that added airflow more fuel is required, otherwise a lean air/fuel ratio will occur, limiting, and in most cases decreasing, it's power potential. By adding more fuel at this point, you add more fuel burn per stroke, adding extra power capability to the unrestricted engine.
Next lesson: Bore and stroke... JK!!!!
BTW - the round cover looks better by far!

You will need a new backing plate & round filter which will most likely be a hi flow so no you'll need a tuner. Then the pipes will follow so the $30 cover will cost you a grand
