Default Harley trial

Presently i drive a 2005 BMW R1200RT. I tried the past week, 2 Harleys a FLHTCI and a Road Glide, (the one with a pointed nose). On the 2 motorcycles I had the turbulance on the helmet to the point that it was unpleasant, I measure 5 feet 11, is that maybe a reason? my hight, is this because of my helmet, yet I have no turbulance on my own motorcycle. I want to change my motorcycle for a Harley if someone have lived a similar problem would appreciate the way the problem have been resolved.
Thank you!

You just need a different height windshield.
For the Electraglides and Road glides, you can buy many sizes for around $30 each.

Road Kings and other bikes, they are more money.

It took me cutting about 3" off of my softail's shield to make it right for me.
I am 6'2"

The seats, shields, pegs and handlebars should be considered comfort items that you will want to tailor specifically to your needs. You are lucky that the BMW fit you right off the showroom. Does it have an adjustable shield?

You can also get shields with a curve or a lip to help with that if you like the height.

Good luck and Welcome to the forum from Northern California!

On the Road King you can get lower front wind deflectors which will make a tremendous difference in helmet buffeting. I have these on my Softail Classic, and they work amazingly well. I also cut several inches off my windshield so I could see over it. Between the windshield and the wind deflectors, I am as comfy as can be at any speed, no buffeting at all.

I own a FLHT and have ridden a RT and a LT. There is a big difference in the wind management between the BMW and the HD. As a BMW owner you know it is possible to 'trim' the electric windshield for the best flow. On the HD you simply don't have that option. The RT and LT's were designed in wind tunnels-the HD was designed, ummm, well, somewhere else. There are a seemingly infinite number of windscreens available, it is just a matter of finding the one that works best for you. The reality is you will never achieve the turbulence-free air pocket that you can on the RT/LT....But then again, isn't that part of the retro character of HD?

Plume2, I always wear a full face helmet and the stock windscreen height was giving me lots of unpleasant buffeting.
I cut down the windscreen to the height and shape of the low profile contoured Road Glide windscreen on my '02 Road Glide and now I have clean airflow going past my helmet. I have no buffeting and great airflow for cooling through the helmet. When riding in the rain, no problems as I wax the helmet so the rain just beads off. (I prefer to look over than through a windscreen also)

The better half also has no problems with the new screen height.

Made a huge difference.

I also made the switch from BMW to HD this year and would NEVER go back!

cheers,
Dale

There is definately a difference in the riding community....[sm=smiley20.gif]
No offense intended-I love all kinds of bikes. For me, the HD riders are the best.

DAMN, I am going 65mph on the highway on a Sportster with no windshield!

Quit your b*tching about a little buffetting!!!!!!

Just kidding!

I am looking into adding a windshield myself. I am 6'2". I was thinking of a low profile one. After reading some of the responses here, I am thinking that still may be the way to go vs. a full size.

And welcome to the forum. Here's to you getting a HD soon!
