Im scared to buy somewhere else. If I do how do I get service ? There going to want to know where I got the bike. Fly and buy ???? Its not such a dealer issue. Its a power issue. My BD has a 117 ci in it and it has plenty of power. I thought a Harley would be close. Im just asking. Anyone with a 07 ?
I've wondered this myself. I don't have an answer, other than they seem to have more than enough people lining up to buy bikes then turn around and slap $3-4k into the motor. If people quit buying HD's b/c the motors are ridiculously weak, then they would probably wake up and start making more power. Same with the brakes and non-hydraulic clutches. I love my softail deuce, but the MoCo needs to wake up in my opinion.
If you are use to a strong running bike like a big dog you will want to do motor work if you buy a h-d in my opinion, big bore and cams will wake a h-d up and if you want more alot of shops offer as much power as you want but if you want fast out of the box then the honda is that but like stated above they come with a lot of plastic, I own both wife rides a wing trike and I a street glide i did motor work right away planed to before I picked it up and am happy with my choice.
I've said it before. It's no wonder that Harley can't sell bikes. Underpowered, antiquated, ugly paint, poor handling, etc., etc. If you can't make up your mind between a Harley and a Gold Wing, get the GW. You have not been bitten by the "Harley thing". For me, if it ain't a Harley, I don't want it.
Why would you think the power would be comparable between a 88 or 96" Harley and basically the same engine at 117"?
well- let me say that i only rode sportbikes for the LONGEST time... all pretty big power makers/wheelie machines... R1's, GSXR's, Ninja's.
then i bought a Road Star Warrior.... did the usual mods along with high compression pistons. that thing SCREAMED for a cruiser. it SMOKED ALL of the HD's i ride with. the Stage I 88's, the 95's... even one with a 103".
i sold it to buy an 06 and i am not wishing for more power.

Having enough power is a personal issue. I have a 07 Road Glide and it is fine for me. Plenty of power for touring. I don't plan on making any mods to the engine since the 6 speed and 96" seems adequate for my needs. I previously had a 99 Heritage which I added a carb, cam and exhaust. The 07 is considerably better and I can still hear the radio.
You need to rent a bike for a few hours of riding before making a decision.
Im 215 6FT2 . My girlfriend was with me. It just didnt have power to me. I was wondering how the new 07's did. I asked the mechanic there and He said a lot of people did power upgrades. Why dont they just put an engine in there thats powerful enough to do the job ???? Or are they having fun with upgrades now ???
Part of the Harley experience is an air cooled single crankpin engine with the sound and feel that everyone likes but they don't produce as much power without some engine mods as the metrics. I feel mine has more than enough power with the SE Stage 1 and the SE Pro Performance Exhaust out of the 06' Racing catalog which you can't get this year but there are lots of aftermarket exhausts available. The Harley sound isn't quite there right off of the showroom floor because of all the EPA B.S. but can easily be had with a few mods. If you want a plastic covered bike with no soul what-so-ever that sounds like a sewing machine with more power then go buy a Goldwing but nothing is like riding a Harley. My last bike was a Honda VT1100C cruiser and it wasn't a bad bike but I hardly rode it compared to my 06' RK which I ride all the time.

I bought a new '07 Ultra in Cheyenne, Wyoming on the way back from Sturgis and rode it to Oklahoma. I wanted the Ultra and I wanted the six speed and I wanted the 96" engine, even if they are new. Yes, I've heard all the nervous nellies with their shorts in a tizzy about the '07s. I don't care, I like new. I'm not into speed. I'm into torque. This one has a bunch in 3rd and 4th gear. I like to ride around 70 and look at the scenery. I've had it up to 90. I had an '05 Heritage. The Ultra has more torque and feels much better at higher speeds and is smoother. As you have found out, these are not racers and can't compare to the sport jobs. But for me, it is an American Icon and Legend. And besides, the logo matches my new bar and shield tattoo. Unlike sport bikes, as I'm sure you know, Harleys are built to ride and tour, not to drag and race. If you like the other bike because of speed, buy it. Don't let someone talk you into buying a Harley if you have concerns. However, if you do choose the Ultra, don't feel bad about letting the non-selling dealer service it. Their service department is a profit center, just like the sales department. Although I was planning to order a new Ultra from my local dealer this fall, they do not take trade-ins and I didn't want to mess with selling the Heritage myself. So when I stopped in Cheyenne, they made me an acceptable deal. When I got back, I called and told my dealer I got a wild hair and bought a new bike out of state and did they want to do my service and warranty work or not? They said they most certainly did. Going in tomorrow for my 1K check, with 2,100 miles on it. As far as power is concerned, it has plenty for me. It's stock and will remain so. I don't want to get there first, just ahead of the sonofabitch that's about to hit me. Go with your instinct and feelings. The object, after all, is to ride. Good luck and be safe.
CVO Ultra Classic with 110" engine....should let you feel the power. You still are going to be disappointed though going from a 117" chopper to a "heavy" dresser at 110".
