First let me say Hi to all. I own a Big Dog chopper right now. We’re selling it for a lot of reasons. We love to travel and go to bike rallies. Here in Mobile they offered us a ride on a gold wing and a Harley ultra classic. This is where my question comes in. We rode the Harley. It really seamed to not have any power. I told the owner I was really interested in the new 07 with the bigger engine but He said GOOD LUCK on riding one. Now im not one to be played with like a child. I have plenty of finances . I told Him I was serious but He just laughed at me.
My two questions are- Does anyone own a new ultra classic and how is the power ? And Are all dealers like that ? I would like to stay with a V-Twin but not with that attitude and power issue.
HELP !
I have an '06. I am doing some power upgrades due to my size/weight. Other than that, I would guess that a normal size/weight person would have enough power for what the bike was intended to do.....tour. When me and the OL get on for a ride, we have added about 440 lbs to the bike. And yes, most of it is me.
With any new Harley you have to open them up. After that you will see a little more power. Pretty much pooches from the moco.
I have two dealers fairly close to me and one is like Cheers and the other acts like they are doing you a favor for you walking in the door. Not too hard to decide which one to go to.
For every dealer with an attitude there are two out there that are willing to help you out, sorry you have to look around. If you are looking at power, the Goldwing has more. The Harley can be built up, 100 hp is pretty common, some go higher and still have a good street machine. You have to decide if you want a six cylinder thats encased in plastic, or a two cylinder thats all metal and chrome.
Im 215 6FT2 . My girlfriend was with me. It just didnt have power to me. I was wondering how the new 07's did. I asked the mechanic there and He said a lot of people did power upgrades. Why dont they just put an engine in there thats powerful enough to do the job ???? Or are they having fun with upgrades now ???
I found the best way to test drive a Harley was to rent one from a dealer. $100. for 24 hours and gives you a chance to put a few hundred miles on the bike and realy check it out. I am not sure if they are renting the 07's yet but they should be soon. Six weeks ago I was trying to decide between a BMW R1200 RT and a 06 road gluide. The BMW is a dame nice bike and has quite a bit more power but two days after renting the Harley I bought one. I learned what is ment by " The Harley Experience" and love it.
