Default motor differences

can any one tell me the difference between the engine on a bagger/dresser and the one on a dyna. I am want to know about its apperience (sorry about spelling) not so much its guts. if the engines and trannies where together and both sets where seating on a bench. How would I be able to tell them apart.

They are not the same there are differences. One simple difference is where ya dump in the oil -- not exactly the same at all.

I believe the engines are similar, but the trannys are different, and the primary cases are totally different;the touring has the short stubby case & the Dyna has the long, traditional case. Never could figure out why the Dave did this--seems to me it would be less complicated to put the same drive train in both bikes.

softail motors have a noticible buldge in the front near the oil filter, for the balance shafts, dyna's have provisions for a large ft motor mount (rubber) while baggers have a different ft bracket for the ft mount, oil pans are different from dyna to bagger as well but thats under trans which is different between the two(dyna, touring)
