Hi. this is my first post. And its time to get my first Harley, coming off a 1981 honda. I know some answers will be any Harley, and test drive some. But Ive been thinking of some pros and cons.
I need help deciding which bike. My choices are FXDWG or FXSTC. Took a softie and bob for a ride. Didn’t feel much rear suspension ride difference in 15 min ride on each. And they didn’t have a wide glide to cruise. I like the front end look of the wide glide, but the soft tail custom has some good points too. Any ideas? I know I must test out a wide glide.
Dyna V/S Soft tail FXDWG V/S FXSTC
Dyna Wide Glide Greater rake 2007 = 34 deg = very cool looking More torque +4.1 92.0 ft. lbs. @ 3000 rpm 96 (non B motor) rough idle good or bad? Spoked rear wheel = nice More unique (less out there I think)
Discontinued in 08 Rear tire not as wide 160/70B17 73V (bigger is better)
Soft tail custom Better rear end ride (the salesmen says, I didn’t feel much diff on a 13 min ride) Wider rear tire 200/55R17 78V Seat more comfy Rake only 32 deg 96B motor smother at idle Less torque 87.9 ft. lbs. @ 2750 rpm
Current votes are I like the Wide Glide and DW likes the looks of the softie. Any Ideas?
It really is up to you. They both are good rides, and I have both a Dyna AND a softtail style (AIH Outlaw). I do prefer the wider tires, but for just over $200 you can 180 the WG.
IMO the softies have a little more plush a ride, but the Dynas are more 'flickable' (being lighter).
I was in your shoes two months ago. Softail Custom, or Wide Glide. I always admired the Softail Custom. I ended up buying the WG because it fit better (6'3" tall). If I weren't so tall, it may have gone the other way. I couldn't be happier with my WG, but they are both fine machines.
Just got back from a short ride on my WideGlide. I sure do love my bike.
All the bikes are great and have their own qualities. Get the one that fits you and what kind of riding your into the most. When I walked in the store I saw my bike and told the salesperson to get it prepped cause I wasn't leaving without it. Have fun shoping, it's free.
If you like the smooth ride a'la Honda, buy Softail Custom, otherwise WG
Seriously, testride both, then you know which one makes your heart bump...good luck!
