what's the word on the Lojack system for security? Does anybody have it installed on their bike?
I know it's fairly spendy and does nothing to prevent a theft, only helps locate a bike that's already been stolen. Beyond that, any help on this or other similar products would be appreciated.
The newest security system is satelite tracking. It costs to install it on the bike and then it's acivated if the vehicle is stolen. Cost is high when it's activated but it'll find the vehicle anywhere in the world. First heard about it from a customer with a very expensive four wheel drive van that is having it installed. LoJack is limited to certain areas where it can be located.
I've had it on my bike since new and never used it.
I've also had insurance for the whole time and didn't use it either.
It's just one more thing to help create peace of mind for me, like the alarm system, siren, pager and disc lock.
Be aware it only works in major metropolitan areas - a lot of places where it won't do you any good.
+1, been on my bike almost since it was new, I think it was around $600 then, and was not any good in the county I live in, but since then they have added more coverage.

I had this installed also, it is nothing more than a rfid chip basically. I had it installed about a month after the lojack (when I found out that there was no coverage for the area I live in) and again I think (don't remember exactly) but it was in the neighborhood of $1000. Great peice of mind that I hope I never have to use.
Had lojack on my truck when I bought it. Never got it on the bike. Not many places to hide lojack on a bike and if it gets stolen, it will be in pieces before you even notify lojack.

I have it on my '09 Street Glide. It will notify you three different ways if it gets activated. You can then call Low Jack to confirm that the bike is indeed stolen. It uses a Fob just like the HD security.
thanks for the input! It looks like based on coverage, Lojack seems inadequate while the satellite systems are the way to go so I don't have to worry about coverage issues.
Called my insurance yesterday about this (allstate) and they didn't offer a subsidy or an insurance break if I had this installed so will pass on it. I heard some insurance companys will though.

One other thing about Lo Jack. I had it on a Sportster and when I sold the sportster LoJack told me I could not transfer it to another bike. If I wanted LoJack on my lowrider, I would have to buy another unit. Don't have LoJack now and won't in the future.

I have it on mine as well. Once I couldn't find my key with the FOB attached so i used my backup key. When I got to my destination there was a message on my cell phone letting me know that the bike had been moved. I think it is well worth it for the peace of mind.
