Several of us are planning a Smoky Mts trip later this month. My 06 FLHTCI has the original battery and even though it still seems fine, I plan on replacing it prior to the trip—gonna be cooler in the Smokys than Florida and I don’t want to chance it dying up there or during Trail of Tears on the way home. My question is about Gel Batteries. Are they a better option? But since the original battery has lasted 5 years, maybe I should just stick with another OE battery. Any thoughts? Thanks
All my wet batteries lasted for around 4 years, ive had 2 gel batteries, first one lasted 3 years, the second which is still going strong ive had for 5 years, probably luck of the draw how long they last, and how often you use the bike.
Did you covertly photograph some dude looking at your bike?
That's mildly disturbing.
Oh yeah...The OEM batteries are AGM (I think) batteries which (I think) are gel. Either way, mine lasted just shy of 5 years and it was only getting weak (replaced before it died). I bought an OEM.

My wife was standing right beside me when I did. Does that make it more disturbing?
It was a big cruise in/rally type deal they had downtown here over the weekend, and I was taking a pic of the CR to show my boss where I had got to park at it. We wanted to set up at this rally, but were turned away. I thought someone checking it out would make a funny sig.
Here's the whole pic
