Well they say there'sa first time for everything and yesterday was it.
We were riding through Kingsport Tn. when we saw some dust in the rd. and a truck was in the middle of a center turn lane, after the fact I guess they sweeping up a car wreck, anyway as we were riding through I hit something pretty hard, my freind said he seen it fly out from under my tire, so I pulled over and checked and saw nothing, we rd. on and went through Blountville by Bristol Motor Speedway and on to Elizabethon, before we hit the turn lane as we were coming up the hill I noticed the bike started to pull really hard and I knew right away it was the tire, the bike started to wobble some as I was slowing down but I just eased off the throttle and let it stop real slow, we were right across from USA custom cycle where I had the tire put on to begin with, a buddy riding with me had a tire pump and it held just enough to get me across the hwy. and into the medium and up the drive.
The tire had a 2" slit all the way through and also had a nail in it, so needless to say it was shot, had about 1000 mile's on it I guess or so.
There's no dout that the man upstair's was wacthing over me to get it from where it happened to where it went down, about 15 mile's away and through curves and 60 to 65 mph, I was a little upset at first but in one minute I was also so thankful for him wacthing out for me.
Put on a tire which was the same but slighty used, he was out of the new one's but this tire looked as good as the one that went flat, so after going to lunch while riding two up with my freind [sm=laughat.gif], which they all got a kick out of , they even took picture's, it was actually sort of funny, and I was doing alot of explaining to everyone at Ridgewood Barbaque why I was riding like that, paid the man and thanked him for his help and we went on for a great ride, sorry this was so long but it's the only way I could explain it.
Sounds like luck was riding 2-up with you that day, no road rash and a new tire just across the street, only bad luck was the bucks and time for the tire, glad you and the scoot are OK.
The best part of the story is you piling on the back of a bike with another dude! Glad you're good, glad the bike is fine, and glad to hear that you came through it with nary a scratch.
I've had two flats in around 30 years. One fairly high speed rear tire blowout that turned out OK. Lot of wobbling and lane changing until I got it slowed down. Then last summer just like you I had a new tire with 1000 miles on it when it went flat in my dealers parking lot. I went to leave and noticed it and later found a nail in it. Lucky to be at a dealer so I was back on the road in about an hour. Hate spending that kinda money replacing a tire after 1000 miles.
