Sorry to hijack the thread and before I go on...good on 'ya OP for stopping to render aid...sounds like you did just fine.

There IS such a course. It's very similar to what you are suggesting. Accident Scene Management Inc. Here's a link. http://www.accidentscene.org/ The organization seems to be gaining in popularity and in Texas, the classes down in Austin stay pretty much booked up. It's still fairly new in the DFW area.

I ran across it looking for a first aid course for my MSF cert. and thought "what the heck" and signed up for the Basic course. I was so impressed, I signed up for the Advanced Class and rode down to Austin TX (wanted an excuse to go there) and took that as well. I have been very enthusiastic about this course and wish more people/bikers were aware of it...and took the time to take it.

Reading through the testimonials on their website convinced me to take the course. If any of you has the slightest inclination to take something like this, I highly recommend this course. It will go a long way in giving you the tools to help/handle a crash scene until paramedics/EMTs arrive. It's designed specifically for trauma encountered in many motorcycle crashes...not just your basic first aid stuff.

I now carry a pretty comprehensive first aid kit on my bike and hope that I never have cause to use it, BUT, if I do, I feel confident I will be able to handle the scene until the professionals arrive. Beforehand, I wouldn't have had the foggiest idea about what to do.

Borracho...I recommend you look into this course...you might be interested in hooking up with them down in Austin. I know they are looking for Instructors and being a paramedic, you are able to become a lead instructor. I'm considering becoming an Assistant Instructor myself. When I was taking the Advanced class, Denise Carey (an Instructor Trainer) gave our class and after class, was speaking to one of the students (a paramedic) about him becoming an Instructor.

I've been thinking about developing a course that teaches riders basic first aid and especially how to deal with motorcycle specific traumas, proper helmet removal if absolutely needed for airway control, spinal precautions, etc, etc. Does anybody think this might be a course they would be willing to sit through for the knowledge? I'm estimating it would be about a 2 day course, 8hrs the 1st and 4 the 2nd. Just trying to get an idea if this is something I should develope to help when people come across downed riders. Thanks for any suggestions! RIDE SAFE!!
