Don't know about your region, but around here I see lots of 20 and 30 somethings on HD's. New neighbor across the street has one... he looks to be in his late 20's or early 30's. Was at the HD dealer today for some shindig doin's... LOTS of younger couples rumbling around on HD's.
World War One, when 20,000 Harleys were used by the U.S. infantry. With the shutdown of Indian in 1953, Harley became the only American motorcycle manufacturer. Marlon Brando's 1954 movie The Wild One helped solidify Harley's image of hairy-chested rebellion, an identification it alternately embraces and spurns.
Pretty impressive since Brando rode a Triumph in the Wild One.
Haha! Yeah, Triumph helped solidify Harley's image of hairy-chested rebellion.
I can relate to the replies, but these last few weeks proved out the article in a way. Georgia has the Leaf Gawkers, and the 3 week Apple Festival was on...and Silver-Topped Harley riders were out in abundance. I have a bit of a harder time calling these throngs of Penny-loafered, mostly overweight, leather-wrapped geriatrics buying apple dolls and craft souveniers "bikers", but there they are, on baggers by the hundreds. I doubt one in ten has ever been over the speed limit.
It doesn't suck. When my dad used to complain about his old age aches and pains I used to tell him to be grateful that he lived long enough to deteriorate.

we have apple bonanza up here too and i had to laugh while reading this because i saw the same thing.
a group of three dudes with matching 2010 road kinds in full HD gear down to shiny new chaps roll into soon's orchard. one guy isn't so much riding the bike through the lot but more of a slow motion wreck waiting to happen. they buy some apples and other stuff hop on their bikes, one guy doesn't start the bike and walks the bike back, he tries pushing forward but he's facing an uphill and can't get the 800 LB bike up. so his buddies hop down and start pushing. for the life of me i couldn't understand why he didn't just start the bike and drive it forward.
18k might be alot for a bike but when was the last time you rode a jap bike with 75,000 miles on it????
You've obviously never looked at the odometer on a Goldwing. At 75,000 miles most are still in OEM warranty.
My '99 1500SE had 110,000 when I traded it, didn't use oil, everything worked (including reverse, cruise, and stereo) and it was sold by the dealer within 24 hours. There are LOTS of Wings (and other metrics) out there with more than 75,000 miles. It's common for Goldwings to to reach 250-300,000 miles and one guy on the Wing forum has 500,000.
