riding motorcycles.... not trying for americas top model
go ride
I agree, but riding in comfort is a big part of it for me. I rode with a 3/4 helmet just for sheits and giggles and did not enjoy that ride one bit. Muffled sounds, and my head was bobbing around with that monster on there. I could never get used to that. Thats why I'm trying to find a nice low profile lighter helmet. I know it won't look like my current beanie, and I don't care about that. I just don't want to know that sucker is there every second of my ride. I sometimes forget my current helmet is on my head...Old age...maybe... but I occassionally reach to make sure I remembered to put it on.
After reading the countless threads and posts on here about this subject, about 2 months ago I ordered one of these. I wear it everyday. It's my daily lid.
Daytona Carbon DOT Skull
Almost everyone here wears a novelty, and I mean everyone. The cops don't seem to care. But I have heard the stories about getting hassled. Although if you fight the ticket, it usually gets thrown out as the NV law doesn't state exactly what an "authorized" helmet is.
I lived in Wyoming for years. When I moved here, I actually had to buy a helmet. I bought a novelty first, then this. I figured, screw it, I don't need the hassle. This helmet is very light, it's still a mushroom, but not too bad. The DOT symbol is under the clearcoat on the back, so it won't wear off.
I always, always, enjoy a good helmet thread. Way better than the fingerless glove and assless chaps threads. I can appreciate everybody thinking they look just swell in the non-dot lids and hating to spoil the handsome figure they cut with a DOT helmet.

That looks more comfortable. Looks a lot like the ZOX, I looked at on line. Thanks
I actually do look fantastic in a DOT helmet. I've got something like 4 different DOT half helmets, and every one of them makes me look heroic, but not in a fruity way at all.
I really feel sorry for you guys that get the ***** head/mushroom head syndrome. I'm not gloating or anything, just saying, I'm glad it's not me.

carry on
I'm with you! Happily I'm not concerned about "looking cool". Besides, I have to go through the base gate, might as well be legal.
I own 4 helmets ,everyone a full face. I live in a helmet free state. Just goes to show you don't need big brother to tell you to wear a lid. I sometimes don't my head my worries.

Almost everyone here wears a novelty? Where is here? I have lived, and ridden, in Vegas for 42 years and almost never see anyone wearing a novelty helmet. Perhaps you mean everyone riding a BT?
I have even noticed a few Harley riders, besides myself, that wear FF helmets. They must be 'scared'. Or perhaps they have tried them and discovered the venting makes them actually cooler here in the desert. At least as long as you are moving.
My wife doesn't give a crap what I look like in my helmet and that's the only person who's opinion matters to me. I've got a Harley half & a Skid Lid half- the Skid Lid is slightly smaller but not much.
