Having taught motorcycle safety courses in the Navy, I can tell you too many folks have a paradyme about where they're supposed to always be. If your compfort zone has you in the right lane, great. If your moving with or faster than traffic, the left is probably better. The center lane of a 3 or 4 lane highway is the worst... no exit in heavy traffic. Another thing I see is riding position within the lane. This again should not be a "set" position, i.e. right, center or left. Position within the lane should be changing dependant on surroundings.
Its slower and gives me that fast bail-out option.
makes me feel safer.
Same here, and tends to keep you away from faster traffic whizzing by to your left at 85mph. Also I think it gives you a better view down the road with less blind spots, and more out options if you need one. Worked for me for years.
Having read all the no nos about the center lane, I'll put my .02 in. I ride the center lane where there is one. My reasonoing follows: RIght lane , folks entering and exiting. You never are sure when they;ll pull onto the road or if they see you. Left lane ..kamikazis, speedball hair on fire Nascar drivers. I take the center lane, do the speed the lane is riding and have the ability to change at will if needed. I vary my position in the lane depending if riding alone w r with a group and the condition of the road plays in as wel.
wherever I feel I have the best manuevre and gettaway room. It varies with lanes and traffic conditions. But usually on the left 3d of the lane, whichever one I'm in at the time.

Left lane, normally go faster than the rest and that lane is usually smoother. I like the right side of the left lane on multilanes as i can hug the right line to see ahead of the cars in front of me and watch the traffic flow. Also while looking between the cars in the left and right lanes i can watch for hazardous junk on the rode ahead. Being close to the right side of the lane i can also easily bailout to the right lane if i need to.
