Boy, everytime I wear my helmet (half HD), I end up with a headache . I usually only wear it when I am on the interstate (IH35). Should I be looking at a lighter weight helmet? I have never compared helmets but I guess I should .
If you are on the interstate with a half-helmet it may be the wind in your ears and eyes that are causing the headache. I make sure my goggles or glasses fit well. I usually wear ear-plugs on the super slab. If your helmet doesn't fit right it will bounce or slide on your noggin. Wear a do-rag or something to tighten up the fit and cinch the strap. Now, ride like the wind lil bro.
If the helmet doesn't fit properly, it will cause a headache. Probably too tight on the sides. This is a frequent occurance with half helmets. When the weather is warm, I wear a half helmet on short rides. When I've worn it on longer rides, I get a headache. It's because it doesn't fit right. I could get another helmet, but right now, I just wear my 3/4 when I go on long rides.
I think Oldgeezer said it right. Everyones egg is shaped differently. Try on several brands of helmets to find one that fits your egg just right. Try to find one that has the least pressure points. You'll be glad you did.
Here's a new suggestion. If mine isn't tight on my head the wind catches the helmet, pulling back on my head/neck. So the entire time, i'm using my neck to fight that resistance. The "head ache" starts at the base of my neck but will eventually work it's way up. It's not excrutiating but enough that I'll need some advil or the like. Wearing a ball cap backwards helps a little since the brim in back stops the helmet from sliding back. I just make it a point to make it tight before every ride now.
Get a helmet that isn't to tight, or doesn't move around in the wind. It will make a big not difference. Fit is everything. I have never gotten a headache from wind noise, but I guess you could. Fit is everything. Not too loose, not too tight.
I aggree with the above suggestions, just get a different helmet.
I own a 3/4 HD helmet, and it would give me a headache from time to time when I wore it. I now wear a full face helmet of a different brand, and have no issues.

I have never found a helmet that I enjoyed wearing. That is why I seldom wear one. However, I have never thought to ask a dealer to let me test drive all the helmets. Hmmm.
