I have been using Shell in the bike for the last 6 months or so, no problems at all.
I do have a question though would you be better off using a regular with no ethanol or a high test with 10% ethanol? I ask because today I found a station offering regular w/o ethanol and am tempted to try it.
I have never heard a single complaint from anyone who runs BP 93 octane.
Shell 93 is my second choice.
It is possible for a station owner to pump low octane fuel out of his high octane pump though. Maybe the OP was scammed that way. He should try again from a different Shell station.
Everytime lately I have used Shell gas it makes my bike ping.Clear it out and fill with anything else except Citgo and they run like new.Drove me crazy for a while.

Here's a twist on that.
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the terminal I worked out of in Virginia was only getting sporadic receipts (pipeline deliveries), they were mostly Super (93) for awhile.
We would load up all Super and drop it in all two or three holes at the stations, most times the underground tanks were bone dry due to again, sporadic deliveries.
So, anyone who pumped 87 was really getting 93, anyone who pumped 93 was just paying for what they got. We call that downgrading.
I only use shell in my 96 twinkie and have nothing but good exp. Cuts the ping to a minimum. I have to be doing some real heavy accel. to hear the valves start to dink on me. IMO the 93 shell avail in Tex is almost completely golden.
