I know they are bad a$$ but I absolutely cannot justify $400 plus for an air cleaner, especially after spending $250 on this pos. Ya know?? Or should I just save all winter and get the RSD?
I'd check w/ DR VTWIN over in the Softail section....can prolly get'cha a good deal on the RSD.....besides, hey....... is just 'round the corner, ya know........
I have tried many A/C setups including the Big Sucker and Hypercharger. The Hypercharger is just a chrome cover with vacume operated butterflies, and a K&N filter. It's really all for show. IMO, the Ness stuff does not handle the blowby oil effectivly. The SE backing plate with the rubber snorkles directing blowby oil directly into the throttlebody works the best. Don't by the kit, it comes with an ugly raw cast finish and a paper filter. Get the backing plate in either chrome or black wrinkle, and order the gaskets, o-rings, snorkles, and screws seperately. Order a real K&N filter to go with it. You can run it open with a chrome A/C cover insert from Joker Machine for a hot rod look.

It sounds like your problem is with the breather hoses, not the air cleaner itself. I think if you buy a new air cleaner you will end up sorting out yet another (different) breather setup. This is what I did with my breather system. I did this for the typical oil misting of the air cleaner and the subsequent drip down the cam cover. I really did not want to run the hose down where it can be seen, but I tried to make the installation as clean as possible. I thought about running the hoses upward but that would have caused the oil to accumulate in the hose and percolate diminshing the ability of the crankcase to breath properly...plus the condesation that formed during hot cold cycles. The umbrella valves are one way valves and will not let much if any oil/water back in so more than likely the hoses would just fill with the expelled oil and condensation. I used 2002 CVO Wide Glide breather banjo fittings, the original breather bolts that came with my screamin eagle hi flow intake, 5/16" fuel hose, a 5/16" SS "T" fitting, a 5/16" billit mini fuel filter (element removed). It may not be the best looking setup, but it really is not very noticeable and does breathe well with no oil drip on the engine or side of the bike....and yes the oil pump has been aligned.
