WeeJee congrats to u and your wife.
MY wife just passed her MSF course this past sunday. I asked her to take the course, so She would understand how a motorcycle works and she would be less afraid of it. she love riding with me and fully trusts my riding but i felt she enjoy it more.
I met her for lunch the first day and all she said was wow I didn't know there was so much to know. she says she doesn't care about getting a bike but I'm going to go rent a sportster for the weekend so she can get the feel of riding in the real world. I would love to see her get her own bike but if she doesn't it's cool.

Congrats to you both.
I am signed up for a course that is coming up in a few weeks. It has been years since I have been on a bike and never anything as big as my current bike. I have never had a "cruiser" before. I am looking forward to the class.

I took the class in early September as a means to get my M license. I ended up really learning little things that make riding better....especially turning. I had ridden a lot before, but I wanted the license. My instructors were awesome and I ended up having a great time.

I took a riders edge in April, started on April fools day. I can still hear instuctors in my head. I also practice slow skills with the local HOG group. If you dont think skills need practice your wrong.

The "typical" basic riding class in MO is only 16 hours total, and people I've known who took it learned what they needed to. The Riders Edge was far more in-depth than other state or county planned/run courses. I mean that in terms of how much time was spent on the same basic skills, not how many topics could be covered.
It's a bad thing when the state police doing the classes see they are having problems. I know a couple friend that were hurt doing the class. Myself I been riding from the 60's to now, most everyday. Just think about the mileage on that one.

I kninda had that same thought....I would assume that the course would be the same standard skills no matter where, with just mild non-riding class changes for specific state regulations.

Makes me wonder what or how they are doing differently than the ones I've seen and heard about.

there is a huge difference between the Riders edge program and the state run programs. IMHO the riders edge is far better, I took the riders edge about 2 months ago it was my first time on a bike EVER and passed it with flying colors and about a week later I bought my fat boy over 1500 miles since then and love riding. My wife will be taking the class in the spring

Congratulations! My wife took the course in the spring of 2009 and now has 2 summers of riding experience, she does pretty well! She doesn't ride nearly as much as I do because she pretty much refuses to go out alone, but we have fun when we ride together. This summer we criss-crossed Colorado and rode all over the Rockies, great trip.
