I purchased my bike in April and registered my initial mileage (2,540) when my HOG membership came in. I have already received my 1k pin/patch and just went over 7,500 so it's off to the dealership to register for my 5k pin/patch.
Thanks for the replies! I figured that there were others who would keep up with their HOG mileage.
Some friends ask us to join the local HOG and we did. I started the milage program in late 05....another 7500 and I get the 125k patch/pin.....something to do....I started in 1968 wonder how miles I have riden....
When I brought mine in 07 the dealer told me I was automatically in HOG but later found out that for milage you have to fill form out and have dealer verify milage.
I'm just over 10k, I have a separate vest for pins & patches. Most guys I no have about 3 vest
and the point of all this is.............basically get u into the dealership to spend some money on something, I know i can go into a dealer with out dropping some change in there lol
But enjoy your pissing contest. it cool have fun.
The point is recognition for miles you have ridden. If you use the dealer to service your bike, then they can verify and sign off on the mileage then. So no need to make another trip to the dealership to spend money but I'll bet most of us will go into the dealership anyway. And it's totally up to me as to whether I spend money or not.
Not sure what "pissing contest" you are referring to since you decide whether to display the pins or patches. Several posters say they put them in a drawer, some on their vest.
You know, if you don't want to play, you really don't have to.

know I don't want to play, just like I didn't rejoin HOG see no benefit in joining it again,45 bucks for what a patch and pin and a quarterly harley ad magzine.
oh when u sell your bike does the new owner get your pins and patches?
Good to know! I wasn't sure I would be able to do this, since I have yet to log my miles with HOG. I'm the original owner, so I'm guessing' they just need to verify my ownership? I just passed 25k as well.
Well, a couple of months ago I did have the dealership sign-off on my mileage. I mailed it in along with a letter explaining that I didn't pay attention to the program, but I wanted to see if they would let me in. Today, a jiffy bag arrived from HOG that contained all the patches and pins starting at 1,000 and ending with 25,000, which is the last milestone I passed.

Since I am a member of the national HOG and since it is free and really easy to do, I do log my miles and participate. I am getting close to my 25000 mile milestone. I sew velcro on the back of the patch, remove the old one and replace it with the new one. Keeps the vest a little neater. I too throw the pin in a desk drawer. I think it is a nice reward for riding that I would do anyway and if you look at the bikes you see that have like 600 miles on them and they are 3 years old or more, you're darn right I'm proud that I actually ride my bike.
If I added up the miles from my 94FXSTC on to the present ride, I think I would be at about 100,000+, but I never did get the paperwork done. Too busy riding when I can.
