GM & Ford are currently building a JV transmission core to be used across multiple vehicle platforms. I am certain we will see some shared vehicle platforms in the near future.
FYI-a recent report said the most Americanized automobile (parts made in the U.S., labor, etc.) is the Honda Accord. One of the least is the Ford Crown Victoria.
I think Ford and GM have taking their customers for granted to some extent for quite some time .
Ignoring known problems and not issueing recalls . It seems you have to get a class action suit to get them to do whats right .
Do foreign car companies do the same thing , sure they do .
But we expect better of our own American companies and I think we should . After all we the consumer have enabled them to be the big and once profitable companies that they once were. We were loyal to them but are as they loyal to us ?
What do we hear from the American auto companies . " We are stock holder driven " So with that short sighted wisdom they build product with the maximun profit potential ( trucks/suv's) and spend less money designing , developing cars that would appeal to us .
Spend a little less on research and developement and let the consumer find out for them what needs to be improved.
Along comes a gas hike and look what happens , your once loyal consumer that you have wants gas milage, hopefully better quality and is willing to try a foreigned owned auto company to get it. Same thing happened ( lost market share) in 79/80 when the gas doubled . Boy you would think they would have learned something there.
I hate to see any more foreign ownership in this country .
Hopefully Ford & GM will again rise to dominance in there market.
The American flag still flys at the manufacturing plant were I work.
( And there a Ford, 2 Mercs., 2 Harleys in my garage for now.)
So what's everyones take on Chrysler & Mercedes getting together?
I've owned two Mercedes, a CLK320 and the wife's ML320...I can tell you a lot of Mercedes touches on my Dodge truck. The headlight switch on my truck is standard Mercedes, the doors automatically lock at 15mph...Mercedes. The list of small things goes on.
You will soon see a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Mercedes Diesel engine.......nice!!

So what's everyones take on Chrysler & Mercedes getting together?
I thought the Charger with the Hemi motor & German suspenion was interesting
Sorry to get O/T but, the Charger is a sweet ride. We bought one about 3 weeks ago with the Hemi. Nice handling and the go pedal really makes it go.
Regarding Harley being far behind.....for my own edification, where are the individual parts for the HD made? Are they sourced outside the US and assembled in the US? I don't know.
