GM says they have no desire to collaborate w/Ford. Would be a hard merger anyway. You'd have 2 major truck lines (GMC would have to go) beating up on each other, Mercury and Lincoln would have to go (Mercury has no followers and Lincoln is Caddy's spot), and Buick or Pontiac would have to be dropped as well.
They both just need to declare bankruptcy, get all that union costs killed off, and start back up a little smaller. GM still outsells them all here - they just have to pay more per care thanks to the union.
You'd be surprised at how many of those japanese autos are now built here. Parts might be made elsewhere but they are built here, thus employing thousands of americans. On the flip side, tons of automotive parts in american cars are made abroad but assembled here. It's all the same thing.

Right. There is very little left of American made things. Our cars are foreign, our electronics are. I've even seen buildings that shipped in the prefab walls from Mexico. HD is not 100% American. Not even 90%, and the more acc. I put on the worse that gets. Walmart is not American in product either. But Americans want cheap, not American, not matter how they bluster.

You should see the size of the Nissan factory in Mississippi off I-55. HUGE!!!! Tim
FYI-a recent report said the most Americanized automobile (parts made in the U.S., labor, etc.) is the Honda Accord. One of the least is the Ford Crown Victoria.

Before I get bombarded with people screaming ,"The Big 2" started these talks in July and are

1964 was the last baby boomer year so now they are 42 and these kids nowadays have no
respect or tradition for anything
Just count the Civics, Corollas or any other Jap crap with the coffee can muffler in your neighborhood
We have to start teaching these people to get off the "Tree Darts " and go American

itself
The MOCO sells Tshirts and an image for now but what about later?
So, did you have this reaction when Daimler and Chrysler started working together, or Ford and Jaguar, or is it just asian companies you dont like?
Usually the clue is when someone trots out the phrase "Jap crap" that you get the sense that its not patriotism, or economics that is at stake, but jingoism and racism.
These talks started when GM was in deep and they dug themselves out, now Ford is in the same place but GM doesnt care anymore. Go out to your Honda and look at the placard in the door, it most likely says Honda of Canada. That car was built from the ground up in Canada if so. There are 2 manufacturers of Hondas for US Honda, one in the US one in Canada. Same goes for Mitsu, made in detroit. Jaguar is American made now, not British. Absolutely right on those HD parts, look on the back of the box. Made in Taiwan.
