I have a 2009 street bob. i just had a 5000 mile tune up and was informed that the black powdercoating is peeling off the engine. It was news to me. i know every ding and imperfection on that bike. What can I do? Is it expensive to have the engine re-powedercoated? Can Harley do it? I live in New milford ct and don't even have a clue where I would take it to get it done. I need advice.
Is it really gonna hurt the bike? No.
Is it realy gona hurt resale value? no.
beg to differ, i most certainly think it would hurt the resale value. I wouldn't buy it for top dollar seeing the powder coating coming off. If i was looking at bikes and saw that the immediate reaction i would have s the guy didn't take care of his bike. I would likely be wrong in this case but its what i would think and move on to look at a different one JMO
What parts is this happening to? Harley sell spray bombs of the engine paint and one can take the part and prep it, spray it and bake it. That obviously would require taking the parts off. Another option would be if the bike is under warranty bring it to a dealer and say you want the part replaced.

i would say the complete other side! i know that would heavily affect my decision... it is not normal to have it peel at all, yes it can be recoated but the motor has to come apart to do so
The paint is coming off my starter, took it in for warranty, All they do is repaint the part with black paint its not a powercoat, and wont replace the part.

That is insane! If it is under warranty it should be replaced, I would be extremely pissed at that. It doesn't even cost the dealer b/c it gets passed on to MOCO when it is a warranty issue CRAZY!
