i can see where people interested in scooters would object to the noise of a harley - as far as making fun of the HD? no need to defend a harley, it is what it is...
I don't care what anyone else is riding - if its a good time for me (ie; not shifting or stopping in heavy traffic at the moment) I'll wave or nod at anyone else out there as a member of the "two wheel community" ... they get squashed just as quickly as harley riders if cars aren't paying attention so they've got as much membership as anyone
I'd have responded with something like " Seriously dude? You're riding a f****** scooter!"
That's what I was thinking LOL! I do not even wave at scooter as I do not see them as real bikes and do not see a point for them on the road. i do wave a all metric bikes and evern super moto bikes, but not scotters. I would not have even went on that ride. Don't sweat it man, just enjoy your real bike and let them have the old lady toys.

Southpaw Super Glide: A Left-Hand-Drive 1979 Harley FXE Built to Fit the Rider
I used to ride a Burgman 650 Executive (a wanna-be crotch rocket without a clutch)... then I got proper treatment and now I have a Road King parked in the stable. Some Burger riders can be even more snotty and stuck-up than any Harley rider, but that's like your neighbor trying to justify why he he has a small johnson and believes that's just fine!!! I've ridden with the scooter crowds around here and I'll take a group of Harley's any day. As for metric cruisers. Some are nice rides and many suck, but that's another thread...
