I don't care what anyone else is riding - if its a good time for me (ie; not shifting or stopping in heavy traffic at the moment) I'll wave or nod at anyone else out there as a member of the "two wheel community" ... they get squashed just as quickly as harley riders if cars aren't paying attention so they've got as much membership as anyone
+ 1. They are out there for the same reason that I am! To each his own.

I would not have even went on that ride. Don't sweat it man, just enjoy your real bike and let them have the old lady toys.
reasons to ride a scooter:
-less emissions, smaller impact on environment
-great gas mileage (or electric, even better)
-cheap to purchase, tag, insure, maintain
-easier to operate than a motorcycle

(no, i dont own a scooter, or care to. just playing devil's advocate.)

at the end of the day, they (motorcycles, scooters, bicycles, cages) are all just toys. tools. things we use, not things that define us. who cares if someone's ride isnt "macho" or whatever, so long as it makes them happy?

Actually, a Burgman 650 can cost as much as or even more than a Harlley to maintain or get worked on. There's a lot of tupperware to deal with. I know of one dealer that wanted to charge me more to change the rear tire because of the labor involved... I also got only about 2-4 mpg more with the Burger than I do with the King. Not quite enough to sway me back...

But if think it's underpowered ride beside him at take it up to 90MPH and be shocked when he is still there right beside you ..
Actually, I think those Bergman's are kinda cool, for a scooter that is.

+1 But than again....I would never get caught dead riding with a bunch of old farts on scooters or Honda Goldwings because that group has the same mentality.

i'd get a scooter just for the fun factor if I had a place to store it ... i can see the draw of a cheap lightweight ride to thrash and zip between cars at will... drop it..hell pick it up and run with it if you need to .

More like the days of being a kid on a bmx with no cares in the world other than mischief and riding with your friends - thats being free (other than being back in time for dinner so Mom doesn't take the bike from me for a few days ) . Yeah, I can definitely see why people would go for those especially if all they do is urban riding - <200lbs scooter is a better choice than an 800+lb harley, and with no tags and parking on the sidewalk you'd have no worries at all (as long as you don't give a sh%t what the "real bikers" think about your choice)
