The AMA fought Ruger Firearms over dropping medical insurance from their motorcycle riding employees.....
Man Ruger just doesn't know when to quit. They nearly alienated gun owners (you know, their only customers) by bowing to pressure and supporting magazine capacity limits, among other things...I didn't know about the healthcare thing.
Said it in a nutshell. Loud pipes saves live Bu-- Sh--. Loud pipes pee off the neighbors and they in turn pee off the legistlators and then it is us, the middle of the road bikers that take the hit.
We are all now going to suffer because of a few.
If you dont get involved you will suffer. Loud pipes do help save lives but as with anything there is a time and place. There are already laws in place to ticket morons who abuse traffic laws why should bikers be singled out? What about the trucks, and bus and the landscapers and guys jack hammering at work why are we different. There are always going to be nitwits but I will not suffer because of a few without a fight.
Look at whats happening to our country people who are not even legal to be here complaining about being offended for someone saying Merry Christmas ...please.
Maybe your neighbor is scared of your leather jacket and patches on your helmet so now you cant wear them anymore is that OK with you?
Fortunately them bastards at the AMA fought for them and used AMA money to get Ruger to reconsider their discriminatory policy. I found the link below about some of what went on back then. Ruger eventuality decided not to follow through with their plans.
As usual the ones setting off the same car alarms everyday and the ones posting here support that such actions are great.
As usual the same ones are now complaing that laws are being past to end non OEM pipes.
As usual these same people can't see the connection.
Car alarms are a much bigger noise pollution problem then motorcycle pipes will ever be... No one even pays attention to them anymore and do you really have to have a beep tell you that your doors are locked or unlocked???
Suppose your wife or sister had struggled with a colicky baby for several hours and just got the kid to sleep and some dude came by and rattled the windows and woke the kid up starting it all over for your wife / sister / girlfriend whatever. How much could you support a decent noise level then? Noname
you canr be for real on this lmao......would if it was a car/truck/jet/train..............I'll keep my pipes, baby will grow out of it one day !!
I can't read the whole post but must point out that you need to read the article. Motorcyclist of the year regards any person who affects motorcycling whether they be good or bad. The article labels him bad since the law is a joke. The AMA is against wide open pipes in general but believes that the laws must be applied fairly and reasonably. California's law misses the mark by alot. AMA may be somwhat flawed at times but they're a very worthy org.

Huh? I know they ended up having to spin it like that because so many people got pissed off, but do you really beleive they would nominate someone who is in fact against the rights of the motorcycle riders their....Motorcyclists of the Year??
If so, that settles it for me. I would avoid them like the plague.

It's tough living in the only state that kept all the same career politicians in office. Just about every state in the union kicked the liberal ***** out except California - not one was defeated. Everybody I voted for lost. All the **** I voted against won. If it wasn't for the great weather and the only state that allows lane splitting - I would be out of here too. But I have three more years to go before I can retire on a nice pension so I have to stay. And I didn't mean to offend you either.
About job & pension - same here. But all bets are off after I retire. If they continue to support expensive liberal programs, my only response will be to move out of CA and let someone else pay for them. I understand that the CA govt. has become concerned about retirees moving out of state (less property taxes, sales taxes, etc.) They should be.
in your opinion, what, if any motorcyclists' organization (motorcyclists' rights advocates) are worth a damn? Good enough to join.
I joined the AMA a couple months ago but now I see they've made Gov Schwarzenegger "AMA Motorcyclist of the year" for his anti-noise legislation in California (targeted at loud pipes) - essentially requiring STOCK pipes on all bikes because all bikes will be required to have an EPA stamp on their exhaust, certifying that they fall within acceptable noise levels.
anyway, that doesn't fly with me and I wrote the AMA immediately telling them to keep my Fing $30 but cancel my membership immediately because I can't stomach the thought of being associated with them after this BS.
I'm all for staying tuned and letting my politicians know that I'm watching. That's why I joined to friggin AMA - but this Gov Schwarzenegger stuff is a kick in my teeth. The AMA thinks its so great because they feel it will have wide-spread impact throughout the nation. WTF??!!?? That is exactly what I'm afraid of.
If you know of any good, righteous organizations that keep a good eye on the politicians and decision makers, but still give a fu** about everyday biker folks I'd love to hear about them.
The AMA did not name Arnold "motorcyclist of the year for what he did for us but what he did "to" us. The AMA is about representing the rights of motorcyclists. They are about protecting the rights of motorcyclists. As I read the article, the AMA was not happy with the legislation or Arnold. Let's keep supporting the AMA... they do a lot of good things for us.
