I don't have a full face helmet, and haven't used my 3/4 in years. When it gets cold I wear a sock hat, and wrap a bandana around my face like a train robber, then put my half helmet over this. I've worn this in the mid-30's and been comfortable enough.
I bought a FF this spring and wore it all summer. FF is a mixed blessing really .I took a rock to the face shield and if it wasnt a FF I woulda been 1 hurtin unit as it cracked my shield and for that reason I was glad I had it . Then again in Texas summers at 109 and a FF on totaly blows. Ive vowed to get a 1/2 and goggles this spring but I do like the protection a FF affords as far as road debris.
I have 1/2, 3/4, & FullFace. I am comfortable in any of them. I suppose it could be that I grew up wearing fullface helmets racing MX and also driving race cars, but I get no tunnel vision, limited site, or any of the stated problems.
I consider riding my bike a recreational activity and every thing I have ever done. Snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, Drag racing & Stockcar racing I have had a helmet on. It just feels natural to me. One thing I will say there are a lot of helmets out there. Some good and most bad. If you really want to wear a helmet shop around try them on they are not all the same. New models are lighter and more open in the front. If you don't want to wear a helmet thats good too its your choice thats why this is America but don't give me crap for wearing mine. I like my brains just the way they are. And I do know helmets work. Try rolling a snowmobile after incountering a deer down a rail bed doing 85 and stand up a little stiff the next morning of course but walking away from it. That event cured me. I'll always wear one. Tuck and roll man tuck and roll.
The helmet I was wearing was an old Shoei Z100. Yes it is old, real old, the Snell sticker in it is 1985. I wore it to see how I liked the full face after using the half. It answered the question, I don't. I understand the concept of a full face and agree with it, but before I wear a full regularly, I need to go helmet shopping. If I can find one w/o the faults described above then I'll go to wearing one.
In reflection, I have to wonder how much this helmet contributed to my accident in 1990.
I wear a HJC AC-11 full face, no complaints here. The other day I did take a short ride around the neighborhood without a helmet, it did make a difference in how the bike sounded to me. Louder pipes are on the list.
