when I ride with the full face again. Been using the half all summer and tried it with ear flaps on earlier this week. Not too bad. Just for grins I thought I'ld dig out the full face and try it this morning, before I need it critically. NOT. I like the concept of a full, I don't like the result. With the full on I found that it was tougher to judge speed and lean in curves. I had to acually move my whole head to check mirrors etc., and peripheral vision was extremely poor.
While I was plenty warm, I really don't like the isolated feeling that it gave me. It felt like I wasn't connected with the bike as well. I would have to say it was very close to unsafe.
I just started using my Shoei X-11 full face since it's starting to get cold here
in the morning. I commute about 60 miles on the highway so I use it for warmth.
The only thing I've found annoying is that I can't glance down at the speedo
like I can with the half helmet. I have to move my whole head downward.
Not a biggie, just annoying. I have no trouble with the mirrors or peripheral
vision.
Yeah, I put mine on the other day in the rain and it is just like you said, you lose connection with the bike. I actually found myself going faster naturally with the full face on. It was a little cool here this morning, but I rode to work with the halfy and it was great.
That's why the thread is titled - It'll be a COLD day ... Not saying I won't wear it, just saying it will have to be real cold. Also going to investigate a new helmet.
I am wearing a Shoei RF9000 now and I just ordered a 10k online. I actually feel better when wearing my full-face. I don't get tunnel vision at all and I have really good peripherial vision.

I use a half all year. When it starts to get below 60, I put the neck curtain on my helmet. I don't ride that often in the 30's, but when I do I use a neck gaiter (turtlefur). This is a micro-fleece double layer tube that I can pull up over my nose. It goes up my neck under my neck curtain and down into my leather jacket. No wind chill issues with this set-up.
