I checked into it further. The radio is ok, the battery connections are good, the battery voltage is holding at 12.6 vdc after a few days. I guess I wasted money on a new battery. I must admit, if in doubt, fix it. I sure would hate to be halfway to Panama City next spring and have to buy a no-name battery on the road or have to pay twice the price at a local stealership. If that happened, I'd be whackin' something else.

i have found many times that the battery cables are installed where the weight pulls down to the left loosening over time. new local police RK was that way. make sure the cables are oriented so that their weight pulls down to the right maintaining tightness.
