Front end clunk fix?

The clunk on my softail dissapeared when the steering nut was tightened, not excessively - must still have free movement from side to side when on stand. Mine was just propably normal wear as the bikes only done 30,000km.

My 98 Wideglide has always had the infamous clunk. I just keep an eye on it. I have retorqued and checked fall away and rechecked.
