If you want a Dyna, don't let anybody talk you into anything else. You won't be happy if you do.
Do you HAVE to have NEW? I say that cause theres lots of great bikes out there at great prices that the owners have poured hundreds, if not thousands of extra dollars in mods.
When I bought my Heritage it's as if the owner was modding it out for me!
Vance & Hines, 4.5" risers raising the bars, HD chrome floorboards & passenger boards, luggage rack, engine & saddlebag guards, etc. ALL things I would want to do were already done.
You can do alot with 14k. Try them out and shop around. Don't let anyone pressure you. More bikes than riders out there right now. You could find a real sweet deal.
The first thing tha came to mind when i read your post was that the sales guy is being told to get rid of the Sporty's they've taken in on trade. Harley cut unreal deals over the last few years for new Soprtys and offered to take them all back for full value for any other new baik. Now there's a glut of sporty's. If you like a sporty, go for it. If you are thinking you might want something else, there will always be a ton of sporty's out there.
+2 you can get a Dyna for $14k go to the HD website and hit the dealer locator and start calling dealers and tell them what you want and what you can pay.
Why would you buy a bike for 19,000 when MSRP is 12,000 for a new street bob or superglide? Is there something written on your head the stealer, crook, robber, er I mean the salesman says he can rip you off.
Why buy a sportster when you want a dyna?
Did you know that SG and SB have better lean angles then a sportster, larger tank/ fuel range, more comfortable ride, 6 speed, larger engine?
Why buy a used touring bike when you don't want a touring bike and can afford a new dyna?
I was just pointing out what the sticker prices are becasue I thought they were rediculous. I know what the MSRP of all the bikes I'm looking at. I asked about the other bikes because before I pull the trigger on a Street Bob (somewhere else) I wanted to see if the dealers recomendations were something I should be looking into.
Wow, you're covering the entire product line there every thing from sport bikes to touring bikes.
I suggest you take some time. Think about what you want, and how you will use it, shop around do some price comparisons, check with private parties, if your lucky you will find a different dealer/salesman. You need to decide what you want, then try and figure out how to pay for it.
(I have no idea how you got pre-approved without knowing basically what kind of bike.).
He got pre-approved because it's a line of credit, not an auto note. To the OP, the reason he's trying to sell you a used bike is because there's A LOT MORE PROFIT in it for the dealership and the salesman. Don't let someone steer you away from what you want.
