This is what worked for me; took screws out then removed the tips and baffles together as one piece. used a strap wrench around the tips to get them moving. After you have the whole thing out use a rubber mallet to knock the tips off.
When I took mine off to replace the tips that had turned purple, I took it out for a ride to heat up the mufflers. As soon as I hit the garage I took out the screws and used a strap wrench to twist them out. A set of leather work gloves will also be needed for the hot tips and baffles.
That was three years ago and the replacement tips are still black...
Thanks ...at -20C uphere in Niagara Falls, ON it's difficult to get the pipes warm but I will run it on the jack and see if that helps. I'm a newbie on the forum and I really appreciate the responses!
Not sure what kind of penetrating oil you tried, but i use PB Blaster...found in most auto stores.
I've also read that the tips turning color are due to running too lean...
Maybe someone else can verify...
