I would call Vanson directly. They might give you a different story than the dealer got. I think all the dealers go through a regional jobber.
+1 on a visit to Fox Creek. I'd never heard of them until I started looking at jackets. The reviews/opinions on their gear are not hype. I was a little leery of ordering one online, but all my concerns vanished when I opened the box and tried it on. Perfect fit, top notch workmanship, and beautiful leather. Could not be more pleased unless it was free. If they aren't too far away, I'd recommend a visit. Get your measurements and call to see if they have your size in stock. I bought mine in Nov for $385 and I believe they also had free shipping. Good luck.

I don't mind helping a foreign economy when It comes to buying bike stuff. My Bike is American and so is my Schott Jacket (as someone has already posted, most Harley stuff isn't American).

Living in the U.K. it is difficult to try on Schotts and didn't want to order one mail order only to find it doesnt fit. I bought a cheapish old 618 to see if it fits, and I love it. Actually I don't think I'll bother with a new one.

Man you have the jacket sickness. Welcome to jacketolics anon. I have the sickness too. At least according to my wife. One of the few brands that I do not own is a Lost Worlds. Another famous horsehide jacket maker you might want to consider is Aero in Scotland.

To read more about the opinions of these brands and horsehide jackets in particular by other sick people you might check our the Fedora Lounge website (thefedoralounge.com) and click on outerwear. These addicts are mostly non riders but they are definitely into leather (hehe).

As to an opinion about your dilemma, You are on your on. Langlitz quality is top notch and a jacket custom made to your measurements would be hard to beat. However, most of us do not keep the same measurements throughout life so that value could be fleeting.

If you can afford it, get at least one of each and be sure to let us know how the following compare: Langlitz, Lost Worlds, Fox Creek, Vanson, Schott, FXRG, and any others that you end up with.

Langlitz will make you a jacket in horsehide if you want it but will cost more than cowhide or goatskin. I am about to pull the trigger on a goatskin Langlitz since I want something lightweight. Dave at Langlitz insists the goatskin will wear as well as or better than the cowhide. He also feels the cost of horsehide outweighs any advantage of that skin. He also states horsehide will make for a heavier (weight) jacket overall which is what I want to get away from in the first place.

All I want is the perfect jacket...and maybe more than one : )
Fox Creek on service is amazing. Called me back the next morning after a late email at 8:15am by Nooon my jacket was shipped with a tracking number.
So far:
FXRG, nice bells and whistles but Chinese and plastic parts and in my opinion still not the best leather.
Leatherup, again good for some stuff but the jacket I received was cheap looking and felt like very low quality leather.
Schott, The two jackets I had (one older and one newer) were both TOP quality leather. For me the Perfecto does not sit well on my body type though.
I still want a second jacket and now am torn between the LostWorlds and the Vanson Model B. Horsehide vs Heavy Cowhide but one has fixed liner versus removeable which means a couple more months of wear.
The saga continues as will updates.
Yes, I have a problem...

hoethree,
I just dont get it though. Lostworlds is not cheap but a HH is the same as Langlitz. Legendary has one for $550 right now. I have to believe if they can do it at $550 he should be able to for 1000-1200.

yeah, going through the same gyrations over the comparison of prices on all these jackets.....something doesnt add quite right. I guess I am leaning towards the Langlitz since I KNOW it will be CUSTOM made to my exact measurements (regardless of how many attempts it takes, if any), it will be hand-made in America for sure, and I am absolutely sure Dave Hansen at Langlitz will work for my total satisfaction with his product. I am looking at a Cascade in goatskin with standard pockets plus a concealed gun pocket for about $900......definately on the high side for cost but I have to believe I will love the finished jacket. Its a month lead time for completion since they only make about 5 jackets a day or so. I havent placed the order just yet but highly motivated.

Just to make it harder, I am reading great reviews on Aero Leather from the UK. They have an Ebay store for the US and I confirmed he is their US rep. $799 gets you a made to order Cafe Racer.
Most of them put the Aero, Langlitz and Lostworlds in the same catagory.

dortiz, was not aware of Aero, thanks for the tip.......now what to do? Funny how the Langlitz logo and the Aero logo are so similar!
