I have been destroying the house rearranging things and found some of my husband's old bike parts. We were trying to find some info about them online to try to find out what they're worth and have no clue. The main piece we've been curious about is an old set of tanks. They are factory tanks from a 48 FL hand shift. The have the petcocks and original emblems on them. Anybody have any ideas?
We tried that and found one auction but they sold them in separate pieces. They sold each side separate. Theirs didn't have any emblems either. Only other ones I've been able to find are all aftermarket.

If they are original and they haven't had the holes Bondoed over, and don't leak and really are '48s, they are worth about $1000. In any condition if they are original they're worth a few hundred.

If they are original there is no petcock, just a left side through-the-tank shut-off valve. That what you are referring to?
HD changed tank design emblems in 1947 and used these through 1950. Emblems are made by FOX and will show up on the back side in very small lettering.
1947 tanks appear the same as 48-50 tanks with one exception...47 right side gas nipple is about 2-1/4 from the frame side while 48-50 are about 3-1/4 inches.
47 are one year only and will not fit 48-50 pan motors; 48-50 will fit knuckles (but obviously not correct for AMCA restoration).
1K is about the market right now if they are the 48-50.
And if you post a pic we can tell right away on the emblems if they are OEM or not

I think I got those pictures to upload of those tanks my husband has. I tried to get pictures of the inside of the emblems to show the FOX stamp but never could get it to show up. What do you think?

Think you have a nice set of OEM tanks with OEM/NOS FOX tank badges. Badges have been repainted, should be red (forgot the specific color it is called). Tanks are not correct color and you can see what was probably the original Flight Red in the 4th pic. This color was offered for 47 and 48 models.
Worth what someone is willing to pay. Probably close to what daddyknuck says, even in this messed up economy.
Good luck with your sale. Not sure where you want to offer them but I have a couple of vintage sites that I subscribe to where you might post up. Just need to do an intro so they understand where you are coming from and see you are not trying to pull some third world rag scam.

Thanks for helping me with these. He says he wants to sell them but he is technologically challenged and won't touch the computer. I've tried to teach him how to play around with it but he just gets aggravated and quits.
I had no idea where to start with those things and if you know some reputable places I could try listing them on I would really appreciate it. I know they need some love but I know that they are rare and would really like to find them a good home. My husband put an old pan together when we were dating and I know how hard it was to find the right pieces for it. I guess that's why he has held on to old parts through the years.
