Ahhh, I see. I think that is a good idea. To be honest I rarely ever push the button on the tank, maybe to check my mileage every few months. If I put it on the controls I may use it.
Thanks
That is a great idea, I dont use the functions on mine at all really. I leave it set on the trip odometer 99% of the time. The other features are cool but scrolling through them while going down the road seems a bit distracting, by moving the button up it would let me leave it on the tach and scroll through to the trip meter to check if I need fuel.
I like changing between the oil temp and trip meter, it was someting to do more than anything. I do find I change functions more now that it is up by the grips and not on the tank.
I know back in '08 Harley used to make an accessory switch that went in the same spot. It matched the factory switches also. I believe they discontinued it though.
HD didn't discontinue it. I bought the additional black housing for right the side with with a black on/off switch to hook up my garage door opener. It will be wired into my Accessory switch circuit.
Hit up the HD dealer parts counter if you want to go that route. The housing/switch part numbers are in the 2011 catalog but the parts guy will have to do a little digging around online to get the right side part numbers. If you have chrome controls and switches already, there is a chrome housing/switch set available as well.
Sorry for the thread hi-jack. The OP's setup is nice too, I kind of wish I had found those parts while researching my setup as I like the idea of a push button better than an on/off switch. I may just go ahead and change out the on/off switch in my setup with a factory start or right turn signal switch since the are both momentary switches.
I made a bracket that mounts to my horn bracket, to put in a mini toggle switch to drop out the VOES when I want to hear the full potato potato. I might have to move it up where yours is. Thats pretty neat. That's what happens when you have to much time on your hands. Fun to do, and it doesn't cost much.
