Not much you can do. If its above 100 for most of the summer your bike is gonna get hot. I figure the smartest thing to do is try and keep yourself a little less hot, keep moving, don't let it idle anymore than you have too, don't revv it unnecessarily, use the HOV lanes when its gridlocked, and above all, for goodness sakes, the most important thing to do to keep sane and a little bit less roasted, is to NOT wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet is without a doubt thee most ridiculous, stupid, nonsensical, unsafe, life threatening thing you can do to yourself when its Arizona-like hot.
And don't bother disagreeing with me, cuz if you don't believe me you are wrong, and I don't need to hear any of your whiny-assed reasons you lamely come up with to try to convince me you aren't.
Well for the wife and I, on work days, if the high temp for the day is going to be over 105, we drive our air-conditioned truck. Week ends, ride early if it's going to get over 105.
For us riding is suppose to be fun, so we have a 40-105 policy. Temp for riding being below 40 we drive the truck, temp above 105 we drive the truck. Temps below 40 are not fun with out heated gear and in Yuma Az. that isn't many days out of a year so we don't have heated gear. And we try to head North on vacation during August because that is when most of the days above 105 are.
I don't know AZ laws but it seems like from these posts that you guys CAN'T split lanes...am I reading this right?
I rode through the AZ desert this past summer when it was 118 out doing about 75 and the bike didn't feel any hotter than it does out here in CA on 100+ degree days. Out here I don't ride it any different than I do during winter.
And being able to carry a concealed or open carry weapon without a permit!
Gotta love the AZ!!
That and no helmet makes AZ a great state for riders!
For the most part we stay out of Vegas and Phoenix/south in the summer, save those for winter. Summer we head up in elevation to Prescott, Flag, Grand Canyon as much as possible.
Still gets hotter then Hades coming home so we carry lots of water. (for us, bikes with syn oil and tuner seem to do fine) Not riding in the heat is not an option.....as long as the bikes can handle so can we.
