Safety is really very important aspect while driving. These bike safety guidelines had been confirmed to save life in surprising conditions like street injuries.
Riding in the passing (left) lane on the freeway/interstate sounds unsafe to me. That's where the fastest vehicles are--you could force them to pass you on the right which is dangerous. Also, here in Louisiana you can get a ticket for using the left lane when not passing (though I don't know anyone that's gotten one of those yet). They called it a rolling roadblock law.
Be careful when passing car washes. The combination of water and tire shine products often creates slippery conditions, which are especially hazardous in corners.

1. When nearing hospitals, doctor's offices, funeral homes, I go into high alert. These areas attract people that are under stress and preoccupied - 2 conditions that increase the odds they could make a mistake that could cost you.
2. On dual lane roads when approaching cross streets that are only controlled by stop signs, I try and tuck up next to a cage. Sometimes I might have to speed up or slow down to get near the cage. My feeling is the person at the stop sign might miss me but probably would see the cage I'm tucked up to. Actually, I try and do this even at cross streets controlled by a traffic signal. I just don't have total faith in people I'm coming up on at cross streets that they are really going to stop or wait for me to come thru.
3. Lastly and borrowing from the fluorescent vest people, my little local hospital sells the bright orange, yellow and green t-shirts to advertise the hospital. I have one of each and during the t-shirt riding season I try and wear one over my motorcycle related t-shirt and take it off when I get to my destination. I believe the orange one has saved me already. Recently, one of those cross street stop sign runners started to pull out as I was approaching and suddenly stopped.
