I searched and didn't find a general safety tips thread. I think it's a good idea.
*Disclaimer* These tips are IMHO; use your own experience and judgment.
*On the freeways, get over into the far left lane. You only have to worry about traffic on one side and you usually have an emergency lane to bail out.
*Flicking your lights, high beam to low and back or vice versa is a good quiet way to alert drivers who look like they might pull out.

As already said, the left lane is the passing lane. If you stay in the right lane, you have an out also.
Eye contact is the best way to alert drivers who look like they may pull out. Once you make eye contact, shake your head back and forth like you are saying NO!
My best advice is always look over your shoulder when turning or changing lanes. It only takes a second, don't be lazy.
