Most of my riding is in town and back and forth to work. I know I'm in 6th 'cause the bike is chuggin' and telling me to downshift.
6th gear light is about as useful as the fuel gauge thing on the left gas cap. Trust it about as much as the one on a outboard motor gas tank.

I always know when I'm in 6th gear. It's the one just above 5th, and 5th is real easy to identify on my '08 FLHRC because it has the "5th gear whine". Actually it is more of a humming: Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition".

It's a reminder that 6th is an overdrive gear for "cruising" only, at least that was my understanding.

6th isn't an overdrive but it is meant for speeds above 60. I don't have the tach or the light but you just know when your in sixth.

It is so you know that the Feds will more than likely be right behind you soon because you need so much road speed to actually use the damn 6th. gear!

This annoying light can be easily extinguished with a 1/4" x 1/4" piece of black electrical tape.

From what I have read and been told, it is an overdrive. Could be wrong though.

The sixth gear spoild me. When I take the Deuce out for a seldom done ride, I keep trying to force it into 6th gear. Just wont happen.

My 07 Dyna actually cruises very nicely at 40 mph in 6th at 1,500 rpm on a flat level road. Very smooth. Can't pull up hills well though like that. An 07 dyna is only 630 lbs with the 96 engine. I was surprised that it would cruise so well at that speed/rpm. 6th is a good gas saver.

Wish my deuce told me what gear i was in all the time..I know I am in 6th when i cant shift up anymore. Even with the light i still try going to 7th all the time..dont know why.. Sometimes i get lost in the middle gears..be nice to look down and see what gear i am in...If they put a light for 6th, why not all of them?
